HOT TV Tonight! "God & Gays"

Some astonishing and highly necessary Thursday night

viewing is on tap tonight--meaningful to any LGBTQ person

or the people that love them, and especially anyone struggling

with the issues of religion/spirituality and homosexuality.

Oprah Network's (OWN) program is called

"God & Gays" hosted by Lisa Ling (an episode

of "Our America" actually,) and it debuts tonight at

10 P.M. EST. (Not to be confused with the 2006

documentary of a similar name, "God and Gays;

Bridging the Gap.")

The focus of the piece is Alan Chambers (infamous

leader of the organization "Exodus International"--see

my other blog post for more news there) and their

controversial and harmful 'reparative therapy' practices

that have destroyed millions of lives.

Rachel Maddow: "Pray Away the Gay?"

Worth a look; a recent wonderful expose by Rachel Maddow,
but it's only the tip of the ice berg when it comes to these groups.

If you have been involved in a religious background or an ex-gay
ministry of any kind, please check the link below to reach more on
Ex-Gay ministries and information on surviving them.

I know from personal experience how difficult and frightening it is
to face your own feelings when others have programmed you to hate
them and yourself.

(Personally, I find that still clinging to the same religion that poisoned
and abused so many is an act of self-hate, but if these websites can
serve a stepping stone for people to realize the irreparable damage
done by such organizations, that's at least less abuse being suffered.)

Truth

Here's a newsflash for all you folks,

kids and oldsters alike;

There's nothing wrong with you.

'Religious' folks do now what they

have always done;

they seek those whom they can prey on,

and pretend to pray for them.

They want control over others because they

can't control themselves.

They see the world in stark, sad, scary terms

and want others to do the same.

It causes not bit of lost sleep for the

folks who run the 'reparative therapy'

centers or 'Pray away the gay' groups

to know that they have caused irreparable damage

to untold numbers of people...

making them fear their own feelings

and feel shame and disgust for

themselves.

All in the name of a supposedly

loving deity.

As long as they can get folks to suppress their spirits

and deny their feelings, they're happy.

As long as the illusion and lie of

being 'like everyone else' is present,

the heartbreak and misery and

self-hate and denial that it takes to

achieve said lies are acceptable.

Conservative estimates say 10%

of the population is homosexual.

(I say it's much greater...I have seen

way too many people through the years!)

That means roughly 700,000,000 people

are currently queer.

What exactly do the people behind

trying to turn away from their real

selves gain by torturing 700 million

people on the planet?

Might be time to find out.
